In keeping with the ever increasing pace at North Bennet Street School, just as the Shaker Nightstand project is coming to a close, we are starting a Windsor Chair. This is a very exciting project for me as the instructor for this is Peter Galbert, a recognized expert in design and construction of Windsor chairs and author of “The Chairman’s Notebook.”.
This piece introduces us to several new techniques such as working with green wood, splitting the parts from split logs, and shaping the parts with a drawknife. These skills and methods are identical to those used by craftsmen for ages and connects us to the proud heritage of Cabinetmakers of years gone by.
As you can probably tell, I am quite excited for this.
