This is the first project where we only get some parameters and guidelines to follow rather than a set pattern.
The first task is to design our toolbox to meet those requirements (dimensions, wood choice, and number of drawers). We propose our idea to the staff and if it is approved, we set out by creating a draft and stock list, which must be approved by Lance. We select and purchase our stock, then lay out the parts on it, rough cut it to length and width, and mill it flat and to a thickness just over the final dimensions.
The wood has to be stacked overnight with spacers called “stickers” to allow it to exchange moisture with the air and it is here that any movement in the wood will occur.
Next up, finish milling to final sizes and gluing up panels for the case…
