Another benefit of attending a well-recognized school is the ability to visit collections of period furniture and get up close and personal with the pieces.
We recently visited the Winterthur Museum and collections in Delaware where we toured the house and were able to view some of the pieces in the collections. In addition to looking at the furniture, we toured the rare book collection and artifacts collections. In those, we saw first editions of some of the milestone works in cabinetmaking such as Thomas Chippendale’s “Gentleman and Cabinet – Maker’s Director,” Thomas Sheraton’s first edition works, and many more. Not only did we get to look at them; I was actually able to sit down and turn the pages and look at those wonderful works. Truly a treat.
I took nearly 200 photos during the trip and have placed a sampling of those here.
