A whole week of turning

Last week was spent entirely in our lathe studio developing our turning skills.  Turning is a very enjoyable experience,  but also takes a lot of practice to become proficient in.   I was able to further refine my use with two of the tools that had given me trouble before and with that, I’m very pleased.

The finished Windsor chair arm post on the right contains most of the cuts used in producing that style; this one was given to me by one of our instructors as a good turning practice for me. I was able to replicate this one to my satisfaction.

We also learned the art of turning a bowl in the lathe, which was fun and very satisfying. Rarely in furniture making do you get to start a project and complete it (except for waiting for the finish to dry) in one day.
